GranPiemonte: the entry list has been announced

01/10/2024

There is just one week left until the 108th edition of the GranPiemonte presented by Crédit Agricole, which will take place on October 10 over a 182 km course starting in Valdengo and finishing in Borgomanero. The route is divided into two sections: the first part is relatively flat, crossing plains and rice fields, while the second part features several climbs, such as the Passo della Colma and the ascents of Cremosina and Traversagna.

This varied route matches the varied skills of the key riders expected to compete, divided into 23 teams after the withdrawal of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The entire podium from the 2023 edition, in which Andrea Bagioli triumphed over Marc Hirschi and Alex Aranburu, is expected at the start, and so is Ivan Garcia Cortina, winner in 2022. The entry list features riders looking to make the race tough as Richard Carapaz, Romain Bardet, Davide Formolo, and Bauke Mollema, classic specialists like Filippo Ganna, Matej Mohoric, Alberto Bettiol, and Matteo Trentin, and sprinters with strong finishing skills such as Michael Matthews, Kaden Groves, and Giacomo Nizzolo.

The route of GranPiemonte presented by Crédit Agricole

Quite flat at first (for over 100 km), the route of the 108th edition of the race then becomes wavier and more demanding, with multiple topographical impediments, all the way to the final circuit. Past Biella and Candelo, the route crosses the lowlands among the rice fields around the Sesia River. Past Varallo, the peloton will negotiate consecutive ascents to Passo della Colma, Cremosina and Traversagna. After the pass over the finish line, the route takes one lap of a circuit of approx. 11 kilometres.

Final kilometres

The last 11 km are played out on undulating and relatively wide roads. The final kilometre is a false flat with a mild uphill gradient.
